that was way funnier in my head. now it’s dumb.

New list of things that I say annoy me but really don’t:

  1. Calling something the flu when you don’t really mean influenza. I mean, really. I wasn’t sick with “the flu”, but it’s so much easier than saying, “Snot wouldn’t stop coming out of my nose and it felt good to make loud moany sounds when I was the only one in the house and my back hurt and my head hurt and my teeth hurt.”
  2. Confusing nauseated and nauseous. It does annoy me, but I do it, too, so I can’t say anything. Out loud. Any more.
  3. Um.
  4. That’s about it for now.

The presents I am thinking of getting Nate for Christmas are either really expensive or sold out or both. So I have to think some more. He will probably get Really Expensive because I’m Not That Creative And It’s Easy To Throw Money At A Problem. I also Love Capitalizing Things. It’s probably better than the hyphenating-any-phrase-I-felt-like-hyphenating phase I went through not too long ago.

I like the mouth-play between phrase and phase there. I had to re-read that a few times to make sure I didn’t mix them up.

This week I’ll get to running again. Between my arm and my cold, I couldn’t hack it last week. Hopefully it will help with cramps, like my mother always told me it would. As a cranky teenager, getting on a treadmill was the last thing I wanted to do when blooding, but we’ll see. She’s always been right about everything before.

Okay, I have to go to sleep before I get too hungry to be able to go to sleep. Didn’t think about dinner until it was too late.

out of sorts

November7

Last night, after work, the plan was to take a nap with Nate, then go to the gym at 7 and meet Kaity at Uno’s at 8. Unfortunately, I slept until about 7, so there was no time to go to the gym.

As it turns out, with the rain and the cold, my right knee was all swoll up, so I probably couldn’t have run anyway.

This morning, I had a dentist appointment at 8, but when I got there, the receptionist said my appointment was on the seventeenth. Since I had the morning off, I went to the gym. My knee was still a little swollen, but I figured the heat of the gym would help it, and I really didn’t want to get off my schedule much.

It was probably not a good idea. It basically hurt all day. At least my arm mostly behaved — or it did compared to yesterday.

Tonight after work (I got out late again), I just wanted to go to Nate’s, have a nice long warm bath, maybe we could watch a movie or something. Then my dad called and said that they were in Indiana, and they’d be here on Sunday. So instead of those nice things, I had to go home and clean. I thought, Well, maybe Nate and I can have dinner together, at least, before I disappear into my cavepartment. We then spent over an hour at the restaurant because the cook was out for the night and the ownerlady was cooking instead and blah blah blah.

I wish my dad wasn’t such a neatfreak so I wouldn’t have to panic at the thought of him coming over.

I really need to get some laundry done and stuff, but I am falling asleep now and I am just going to set my alarm wicked early. Ugh.

Things to do tomorrow:

  • clean (obvy)
  • get Nate to the grocery store
  • call the RV campground and see if they have a spot available for my parents
  • call my parents to tell them Kaity wants to host dinner on Tuesday night

The room is spinning. I am tired and dehydrated. Wish me luck.

I got these shoes on Sunday. They’re squishy when I run in them. I like that.

So far, I’ve “run” a total of four miles in my new shoes. I haven’t actually been running the whole time, but I’ve been on the treadmill with them twice, and gone for a half hour-ish each time. The program I’m doing has me walking for about 2 minutes, then running for about a minute, and keeping that up for just about a half hour. I’ve been using the Podrunner Intervals, because I like that guy’s Podrunner mixes, but I found myself digging out music from college last night and I think the two are directly related. I might switch to Robert Ullrey’s podcast; I’m downloading it now to see if it’s any better.

The only other thing I wanted to say was that yesterday, I was apprehensive about getting on the elliptical machine. The last time I got on one of those, I could only go for about five minutes before I had to stop. I don’t know if it’s that the interval program I downloaded (from a link off of the Couch to 5K website) happens to be perfectly calibrated to my endurance levels, or if it’s the 50 pounds lighter I am, or just that I actually want to get moving, but even though I was tired at the end of the half hour, dude, I DID IT.

I really want to go again today, but I’ve heard enough about beginners needing to pace themselves. Besides, the gym will be open tomorrow, so I’ll actually be able to run. It’s far too rainy to get outside.

I’m going running

September13

For weeks now, I’ve been reading about running and wishing I was running and waiting until I had the right stuff so I could go running and I’m tired of it. Next time I’m in Portland, I’ll get the shoes I want to get, but for now, fuck it. I want to run.
