moving, part 709

I just went to look at two apartments today. The first one was awesome (once you looked past all the Mormon literature and artwork on the walls), but pricey. I knew it was pricey, but I wanted to see how awesomely they remodeled it, so that if one of their smaller apartments becomes available soonish, I can have an idea of what they did. Unfortunately, I love love love it and ugghhhhh. It’s two bedrooms, it’s got beautiful hardwood floors, it’s much closer to work than my new place, and the layout is just awesome.

The second one was meh. It’s much closer to affordable (but still on the upper end of what I’d want to pay), but two blocks from work, so there isn’t a day I couldn’t walk there. I’d save zillions on gas alone. But it’s up a very steep flight of stairs, and it generally kind of skeeved me out. Plus the building is for sale. And the landlord is chatty and annoying. Clawfoot tub, though. Hmm.

I’ve got about $200 in my budget for gas, so it seems to me like I should be able to take that $200 (or most of it) and add it to my budget for rent for an in-town apartment, but I don’t think it works that way …
