SciFi Saturday

When I was younger, my mother would watch all kinds of Sci Fi, I thought in a determined effort to make me go outside and play. The torture of sitting through Star Trek or Doctor Who or The Twilight Zone was just too great for my tiny mind to endure.

Now that I’m older I am pretty sure that if someone told me I could never watch any of those shows again, their life would suddenly be filled with more pain than they could endure. You can’t even imagine the sound of glee I made when I realized that the Invisible Man in Heroes is played by the same actor as the Ninth Doctor. Seriously. I am pretty sure that if I owned any crystal before, I don’t now.

When we got our new cable box last summer, we suddenly had access to this channel called HDNet. They’ve got a whole bunch of shows and movies for free and they’re all in HD (not that I have an HDTV, but maybe someday). I’ve been watching Enterprise from the beginning now, since I missed it before it was cancelled. This has led to me setting up DVR recordings for Spike and G4’s syndicated TNG & Voyagers. I knew I liked them before, but now they’re pretty much all I watch.

Those are, indeed, three of the greatest shows in the history of television, assuming we’re talking classic episodes. I will give you some leeway with Star Trek, as I’ve just started watching Enterprise again, as well - gotta love it.

As for the Ninth Doctor … I still don’t consider him the Doctor - not yet. He’s still just Raymond Calitri from Gone in Sixty Seconds to me. This new Who hasn’t quite lived up to my own high standards - of course I’ve only seen the first two episodes of the new one. Must download …

Classic episodes for The Twilight Zone, but not the others. I just can’t get into the original Star Trek. I haven’t tried the old Doctor Whos, since they left such a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe if I see them come around I’ll give them a try. Maybe.

The first few episodes (I take it you started with “Rose”?) were not very good. It just gets better and better. The Tenth Doctor is even better than the Ninth. The squeal was more for when I heard the Invisible Man utter “Fantastic” in that so sarcastic tone. It was like being at a concert and the singer looks you right in the eye and winks.
